Logical Reasoning for SBI Clerk

Logical reasoning is a significant component of the SBI Clerk exam. Here’s an outline of logical reasoning topics and types of questions you might encounter:

  1. Syllogism:
    • You will be given a few statements followed by conclusions. You have to determine whether the conclusions follow logically from the given statements.
    • Example: Statements: All dogs are mammals. Some mammals are cats. Conclusion: Some cats are dogs.
  2. Coding-Decoding:
    • In this type of question, a coding scheme is given, and you have to decode a word or a message based on that scheme.
    • Example: If “APPLE” is coded as “QTTKG”, how is “ORANGE” coded?
  3. Blood Relations:
    • Questions involve identifying the relationships among family members based on the given information.
    • Example: Pointing to a photograph, a person said, “She is the mother of my sister’s brother.” How is the person in the photograph related to the person who is speaking?
  4. Seating Arrangement:
    • Questions involve arranging people or objects according to certain conditions/rules.
    • Example: Six friends A, B, C, D, E, and F are sitting around a circular table facing the center. B is sitting next to D but not next to C. A is sitting between F and C. Who is sitting opposite to D?
  5. Puzzle:
    • These questions involve solving complex scenarios based on given conditions.
    • Example: Five students – P, Q, R, S, and T – participated in a quiz competition. Each student secured a different position. Q secured a position higher than R but lower than T. P secured the third position. Who secured the second position?
  6. Direction Sense:
    • Questions involve determining directions or positions based on given directions and movements.
    • Example: A walks 10 km towards the North, then turns left and walks 20 km. After that, he turns right and walks 10 km. In which direction is he from the starting point?
  7. Ordering and Ranking:
    • Questions involve arranging people or objects based on their ranks or positions.
    • Example: In a row of boys, A is 10th from the left and B is 5th from the right. If they interchange their positions, then A becomes 15th from the left. How many boys are there in the row?
  8. Logical Deduction:
    • Questions involve deriving conclusions from a set of statements or conditions.
    • Example: If all cats are black, and some cats are small, then what can you conclude about some small animals?

Regular practice and understanding the underlying logic behind these types of questions are crucial for scoring well in the logical reasoning section of the SBI Clerk exam.
