Points to Remember

These are the important points to remember about the Prelims Exam:

  • The Prelims papers consist of objective-type questions with multiple-choice answers.
  • Negative marking is applicable for incorrect answers in the IAS Prelims. One-third or 33% of the marks are deducted for each wrong answer. Even if one option is marked correctly, questions with multiple answers marked are considered wrong, so candidates should avoid marking multiple answers for one question.
  • Unattempted questions carry no negative marking.
  • General Studies II in the Prelims is a qualifying paper, and candidates must secure at least 33% marks to clear it.
  • Candidates who do not appear in either of the papers are considered disqualified. It is mandatory to appear in both General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II.
  • Aspirants are advised to refer to important General Studies books specifically designed for the IAS Prelims exam. These books provide relevant study material and aid in comprehensive preparation.
