The SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) exam does not have a separate descriptive paper. However, it consists of four tiers:

  1. Tier I: Computer Based Examination (Objective Type)
  2. Tier II: Computer Based Examination (Objective Type)
  3. Tier III: Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive Paper)
  4. Tier IV: Computer Proficiency Test/Skill Test (wherever applicable)

The Tier III of the SSC CGL exam is a descriptive paper where candidates are required to write essays, précis, application, letter, etc., in English or Hindi, depending on the choice made by the candidate during the application process. The purpose of this tier is to assess the writing skills of candidates.

The Tier III exam has a total duration of 60 minutes and is conducted in pen-and-paper mode. It is usually held offline (paper-based) unlike the previous tiers which are conducted online.

Candidates must ensure that they are well-prepared for this tier, as it carries significant weightage in the final selection process. Good writing skills, clarity of expression, coherence, and grammar proficiency are essential to perform well in this paper.

It’s important to note that the pattern of the SSC CGL exam may change over time, so candidates should always refer to the latest official notification and exam syllabus provided by the Staff Selection Commission for accurate information about the exam structure and syllabus.
