UPSC Indian Railway Personnel Service Exam

The Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as part of the Civil Services Examination (CSE). The IRPS is a Group ‘A’ service responsible for managing the personnel and human resources functions of the Indian Railways.

To appear for the IRPS exam, candidates need to follow the general process for the Civil Services Examination. This involves:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): This is the first stage of the Civil Services Examination, and it consists of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II, also known as CSAT).
  2. Main Examination (Descriptive Type): Candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination are eligible to appear for the main examination, which includes a set of descriptive papers.
  3. Interview (Personality Test): Candidates who clear the main examination are then called for the interview round, which assesses their personality and suitability for a career in the civil services.
  4. Service Allocation: Based on the candidate’s rank and preferences, the UPSC allocates services such as the IRPS to successful candidates.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on the IRPS exam, including the examination pattern, syllabus, and any changes, it is advisable to refer to the official UPSC website or the latest notification released by the UPSC.
