UPSC Tamil Compulsory Paper

The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts the Civil Services Examination in India, which is one of the most prestigious competitive exams in the country. The examination consists of three stages: the Preliminary Examination, the Main Examination, and the Personality Test (Interview).

In the Main Examination, there are nine papers, and one of these papers is a compulsory language paper. This paper is meant to test the candidate’s language proficiency in any of the Indian languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Tamil is one of the languages listed in the Eighth Schedule, and candidates can choose to take the Tamil language paper as their compulsory language paper if they are proficient in it.

The Tamil language paper is not a test of knowledge about the Tamil language but rather a test of the candidate’s ability to read, write, and understand the language. It includes comprehension passages, precis writing, and other language-related tasks.

Candidates who choose Tamil as their compulsory language paper in the UPSC Main Examination should be proficient in reading, writing, and understanding the language, as this paper can significantly affect their overall score.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts the Civil Services Examination in India, which includes a compulsory paper for candidates who choose Tamil as their language for the language paper. This paper is known as the “Tamil Language Paper” or “Tamil Literature Paper.”

The Tamil Language Paper is part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, which is the second stage of the UPSC Civil Services Examination. It is designed to test the candidate’s proficiency in the Tamil language and their understanding of Tamil literature, culture, and society. This paper aims to evaluate the candidate’s ability to communicate effectively in Tamil and comprehend and analyze literary and socio-cultural aspects related to Tamil.

The syllabus for the Tamil Language Paper may include topics related to Tamil literature, poetry, prose, grammar, history, culture, and current affairs. Candidates are expected to have a good command of the Tamil language and a comprehensive understanding of its literary and cultural heritage.

Please note that the syllabus and exam pattern may change over time, so it’s essential to refer to the latest UPSC notification and syllabus for the most up-to-date information on the Tamil Language Paper and other examination details.
