UPSC Exam Pattern, Syllabus
The UPSC civil services exam is organized in two phases: –
- One is prelims
- Second one is Mains
- Then following with an interview, after clearing the two-phases
The pattern and subjects for the preliminary and main examinations are as follows:
UPSC Preliminary Examination
Most in UPSC Preliminary Examinations there are two compulsory papers carrying 200 marks each for those who are appearing for UPSC Preliminary Examination.
Note: –
- Both question papers are set for UPSC Preliminary Examination as objective type (multiple choice questions) longing for 2 hours.
- The question paper that is set for UPSC Preliminary Examination is both in Hindi and English. But questions regarding English language comprehension skills are only given in English.
- Special care and attention are taken for blinds candidate by giving them an extra 20-minute time for each paper.
Mains Examination
The UPSC Exam pattern for written examination consists of the following papers:
- Paper I – Divided into section 1 with essay carrying a total mark of 250
- Paper II – Divided into General studies – I with subjects topic Indian Heritage and culture and Geography of the world and society all topics each carrying a total mark of 250.
- Paper III – Divided into General studies – II with subjects’ topic on Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social justice & International relations. All topics each carrying a total mark of 250.
- Paper IV – Divided into General studies – III with subject’s topic on Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster management. All topics each carrying a total mark of 250.
- Paper V – Divided into General studies – IV with subject’s topic on Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude. All topics each carrying a total mark of 250.
- Paper VI – Divided into Paper I with optional subjects same each topic carries a total mark of 250.
- Paper VII – Divided into Paper II with optional subjects same each topic carries a total mark of 250.
- Note: so overall for all paper total mark will be 1750 marks with a personal test and interview with 275 marks & all evaluating it becomes a grand total of 2025 marks.
