TNPSC Assistant Engineer Electrical Exam Pattern

The TNPSC Assistant Engineer (Electrical) exam pattern is designed to assess both the technical knowledge in electrical engineering and general awareness. The examination is conducted in two stages: a written examination and an interview.

Exam Pattern Overview

1. Written Examination

The written examination consists of two papers:

  • Paper I: Subject Paper (Electrical Engineering)
  • Paper II: General Studies

Paper I: Electrical Engineering

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Maximum Marks: 300 marks
  • Type of Questions: Objective Type (Multiple Choice Questions)
  • Syllabus: Covers various aspects of Electrical Engineering including circuits, electromagnetic fields, electrical machines, power systems, control systems, power electronics, instrumentation, and renewable energy.

Paper II: General Studies

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Maximum Marks: 200 marks
  • Type of Questions: Objective Type (Multiple Choice Questions)
  • Syllabus: Includes General Science, Current Events, Geography, History and Culture of India and Tamil Nadu, Indian Polity, Indian Economy, Indian National Movement, Development Administration in Tamil Nadu, and Aptitude and Mental Ability (SSLC Standard).

2. Interview

  • Maximum Marks: 70 marks
  • Purpose: To assess the candidate’s technical knowledge, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and overall suitability for the role of Assistant Engineer.

Total Marks:

  • Written Examination: 500 marks (300 marks for Paper I + 200 marks for Paper II)
  • Interview: 70 marks
  • Grand Total: 570 marks

Minimum Qualifying Marks:

  • For SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs: 171 marks
  • For Others: 228 marks

Final Selection:

  • The final selection is based on the combined marks obtained in the written examination and the interview. Candidates are ranked based on their overall performance, and those who rank high enough are selected for the Assistant Engineer (Electrical) position.

This pattern ensures a thorough evaluation of candidates’ technical knowledge in electrical engineering and their general awareness, critical for performing the duties of an Assistant Engineer effectively.
