The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Indian Trade Service Exam is a highly competitive exam conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to the Indian Trade Service (ITS). The ITS is responsible for formulating and implementing trade policies for the country. The exam is conducted in three stages – Preliminary, Mains and Interview. The syllabus for the exam is vast and covers various aspects of trade, economics, and management. In this article, we will discuss the syllabus in detail.
Preliminary Syllabus:
The preliminary exam consists of two papers – General Studies and Aptitude Test.
General Studies: The paper consists of questions on current events, history, geography, polity, economics, environment, ecology, and science and technology. The syllabus for this paper is similar to that of the Civil Services Exam (CSE) conducted by the UPSC.
Aptitude Test: The paper tests the candidate’s quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension. The syllabus for this paper is similar to that of other aptitude tests conducted by various competitive exams.
Mains Syllabus:
The mains exam consists of seven papers – Paper I to VII.
Paper I: General English: The paper consists of questions on essay writing, letter writing, precis writing, and comprehension.
Paper II: General Studies-I: The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge on Indian Heritage and Culture, World History, and Geography of the world and India.
Paper III: General Studies-II: The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge on Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and International relations.
Paper IV: General Studies-III: The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge on Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management.
Paper V: General Studies-IV: The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge on Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude.
Paper VI: Optional Subject-Paper I: The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge on the optional subject chosen by them. The choices for optional subjects are Commerce, Economics, and Management.
Paper VII: Optional Subject-Paper II: The paper tests the candidate’s knowledge on the optional subject chosen by them.
Interview:
The final stage of the exam is the interview round. The interview tests the candidate’s knowledge on current affairs, trade policies, and their personality traits. The interview is conducted to assess the candidate’s suitability for the job profile.
