The Main Examination (Mains) of the Indian Police Service (IPS) exam, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), consists of nine papers. Here’s the syllabus for each paper:

  5. General Studies II:
    • Governance: Indian polity, constitution, public policy, rights issues, etc.
    • International Relations: India’s relations with its neighbors and the world, international institutions, etc.
    • Social Justice: Social inclusion, poverty, empowerment, vulnerable sections of the society, etc.
  6. General Studies III:
    • Technology: Science and technology, developments, applications, etc.
    • Economic Development: Indian economy, economic reforms, sustainable development, etc.
    • Biodiversity and Environment: Environmental ecology, biodiversity, climate change, conservation efforts, etc.
    • Security and Disaster Management: National security issues, disaster management, internal security challenges, etc.
  7. General Studies IV:
    • Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude: Ethics and human interface, attitude, emotional intelligence, contributions of moral thinkers and philosophers, etc.
    • Case Studies: Analysis of case studies related to ethics and values.
  8. Optional Subject Paper I:
    • Candidates need to choose one optional subject from the list provided by UPSC.
    • The syllabus for optional subjects varies depending on the subject chosen by the candidate.
  9. Optional Subject Paper II:
    • Continuation of Optional Subject Paper I.
