UPSC CDS Physical Eligibility

The physical eligibility criteria for the UPSC CDS (Combined Defence Services) examination varies depending on the academy candidates are applying for and the branch they are interested in. Here’s a general overview of the physical eligibility criteria:

  1. Height and Weight:
    • The minimum height requirement varies for different academies and branches. Generally, for male candidates, the minimum height required is around 157-162 cm, and for female candidates, it is around 152-157 cm. However, these measurements can vary slightly based on the specific requirements of each academy and branch.
    • The weight should be proportionate to the height as per medical standards.
  2. Chest (for male candidates):
    • The chest measurement is applicable for male candidates only. The minimum chest circumference required is generally around 81-85 cm (unexpanded) with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.
  3. Physical Fitness:
    • Candidates should be physically fit and free from any medical conditions that may hinder their performance in training and service.
    • They should have good stamina, endurance, and overall physical fitness to undergo the rigorous training regimen in the armed forces.
  4. Vision:
    • Candidates’ vision is tested to ensure they meet the prescribed standards for visual acuity without glasses. There are specific criteria for near vision, distant vision, and color vision.
  5. Other Requirements:
    • Candidates should not have any physical deformities, disabilities, or ailments that could affect their ability to perform duties in the armed forces.
    • They should meet the prescribed medical standards for service in the armed forces, including parameters related to cardiovascular health, respiratory function, musculoskeletal health, and overall physical fitness.

It’s important for candidates to refer to the official notification and guidelines provided by the respective academies (IMA, INA, AFA, OTA) for precise and updated information regarding physical eligibility criteria. Additionally, candidates should maintain good physical fitness and overall health to increase their chances of clearing the medical examination and meeting the physical standards required for service in the armed forces.
