UPSC ICLS Syllabus

The Indian Civil Services is a highly coveted career option for millions of young Indians. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts an annual examination for the Indian Civil Services, including the Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS). The ICLS is a specialized service that deals with corporate law in the country.

The ICLS syllabus is comprehensive and covers various aspects of corporate law. The UPSC ICLS exam comprises three stages – Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. Each stage has a different syllabus, and one needs to prepare accordingly.

Preliminary Exam Syllabus

The UPSC ICLS Preliminary exam comprises two papers – General Studies and Law. The General Studies paper includes current events of national and international importance, Indian history, geography, economy, and polity, while the Law paper covers various aspects of Indian corporate law.

To crack the General Studies paper, one needs to stay updated on current events and have a good understanding of basic concepts. Reading newspapers and magazines regularly, brushing up on Indian history, geography and economy, and practising mock tests are some effective ways to prepare for this paper.

The Law paper covers various acts and laws related to corporate law, including the Companies Act, Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, Competition Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act, and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. One needs to have a good understanding of these laws, their provisions, and application in the corporate world.

Mains Exam Syllabus

The Mains exam includes seven papers, including four compulsory papers and three optional papers. The compulsory papers include Essay, English Language, General Studies I, and General Studies II. The optional papers include Law I, Law II, and Management.

The Essay paper requires candidates to write two essays on topics of national and international importance. The English Language paper tests candidates’ proficiency in the English language, while the General Studies papers test their knowledge and understanding of various aspects of governance, society, and economy.

The Law papers require a thorough understanding of various laws related to corporate law, including the Companies Act, Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act, and Competition Act. The Management paper covers various management principles and practices related to corporate law.

Interview Syllabus

The Interview round is the final stage of the UPSC ICLS exam. It is designed to test candidates’ overall personality, knowledge, and suitability for the ICLS. The interview panel may ask questions related to current affairs, corporate law, management principles, and the candidate’s personal background, interests, and hobbies.
