Notes:

Candidate who has already appeared in the examination, those candidates have to furnish the eligibility document for the last qualifying examination which will help them to appear for the UPSC Preliminary Examination. The candidate who is declared qualified by the Commission for taking the Civil Services (Main) Examination will have to give proof of passing the requisite examination alongwith the application for applying the Main Examination, if any candidate fails to produce the requisite examination with their application are not eligible to give Main Examination.The application for the Main exam may come up mostly in the month of August/September.

1. A candidate must be a citizen of India who applying for the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service.

2. A candidate must be either for appearing the exam:

1. A citizen of India, or

2. A subject of Nepal, or

3. A subject of Bhutan, or

4. For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe	Upto a maximum of 5 years

For candidates domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January 1980 to the 31st day of December 1989	Upto a maximum of 5 years
If any personnel working in Defence Services are disabled in operations during the hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof	Upto a maximum of 3 years
The Commissioned Officers and ECOs/ SSCOs who will appear in the Preliminary Examination, should have 5 years of experience in their service till 1^st Aug of the same year. Those Commissioned Officers and ECOs/ SSCOs candidates whose assignment is yet to be completed within one year that is to be completed within 1^st Aug of the same year, when he will apply. 2. Attempts:
