IPS Examination -Brief Summary
IPS knew as the Indian Police Service
is one among the three All India Services. Those who are recruited through IPS examinations are posted as DSP(Deputy Superintendent of Police) directly. Every ear UPSC (Union Public Service Commission ) conducts IPS examinations through their civil service examinations.
Exam Syllabus and Patterns
The Civil Service IPS exams are very extensive in nature having three parts and it may take a year to complete.
The IPS Syllabus is majorly categorised into two main divisions. such as
1-Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
2-Main Examination (Written) -Selecting various services and posts.
Preliminary Examination
The main aim of the Preliminary Examination is for screening purposes, to eliminate competition. In other words, the marks scored in the preliminary examination will not be considered for shortlisting of the candidates, it’s just for filtering out the candidates. Those who passed the Preliminary Examination will be forwarded to the main examinations.
The Preliminary Examination has two examinations

CSAT/General Studies – II

- Comprehension test
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical reasoning and analytical ability test
Decision-making and problem-solving
General mental ability test
Basic numeracy skills (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X(SSLC) level) and data interpretation test (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency and others. – Class X(plus two) level)
IPS Mains
The UPSC Mains examinations are crafted to review the candidate’s academic skills and their ability to represent their knowledge in clearly and directly. The mains exam is crafted to review the overall intellectual skill of the candidates. The mains examination is the written examination and it contains two papers.
Paper A – Modern Indian Languages – Total: 300 Marks

Usage and Vocabulary
Short Essay
Translation from English to the Indian language and vice-versa (Candidates select from 22 Indian Languages of their choice). Tamil is one of the recognised optional languages in the UPSC examinations.
Paper B – English -Total: 300 Marks
The part B paper is crafted to test the candidate’s skills to read and understand important issues and express their thoughts clearly.
Candidates’ skills are tested on the following

Short Essay writing skills
Apart from that there will be upto 7 papers and various optional papers.
Interview
The final part of the IPS selection is the interview. Candidates who have cleared both Prelims and the Mains exams will be allowed to attend the interview.
